Sage

Sage

Also known as: Salvia Officinalis, Sauge des Prairies, Feuille de la Bergère, Herbe Sacré

Considered by Greek and Roman physicians – Discoride, Galen, Plinius – the queen of healing herbs, Sage was acknowledged in ancient Rome as a sacred plant, with magical protective effects. A common belief was that the one consuming Sage since early spring will rejuvenate together with nature. Its leaves contain volatile oil, tannin, bitter principles, resins, vitamins B1 and C, potassium salts conferring antibacterial and antifungal properties and detoxifying qualities.

Bronchitis, asthma, sinusitis and respiratory infections with heavy secretions can be treated by constant intake of half teaspoon sage powder, 4 times a day, for a month.

This wonderful plant can also influence digestion, regulating the appetite and preventing intestinal gas development and just a quarter of a teaspoon with sage powder, taken before a meal will ease gastrointestinal inflammation. Type 2 diabetes patients can also benefit from Sage decoction intake as Sage increases up to 2-3 times the insulin receptivity, but for insulin dependent diabetics, the glycemic level will be strictly monitored.

With harmonizing effects on hormonal levels, Sage can regulate menstruation, alleviate painful uterine bleeding, fight feminine infertility and reduce menopause symptoms. Sage tincture is a true rejuvenating elixir, reducing perspiration and hot flashes inherent to menopause. Used in the older times for stopping the nocturnal overproduction of perspiration for tuberculosis patients, Sage offers help in hyperhidrosis control and management, reducing excessive sweating with 50%. This is one of the reasons why, Sage is frequently used in soaps and various cosmetic products.

Sage stimulates memory, improves intellectual performances, helps preventing senility and balance brain chemicals, fighting Alzheimer’s disease.

Externally, Sage can be used for gingivitis, dental abscesses, infectious eczemas, hard-to-heal wounds and cold sores, a cream containing rhubarb and sage having similar effects with acyclovir products.

Refreshing baths (5 liters of Sage decoction at a bath tub), twice a week can restore your psychic tonus, removing fatigue, while maintaining the natural color and shine of your hair.
